Description: This program recognizes sports as a powerful tool for promoting inclusion, environmental consciousness, and the core values of the European Union. “Green Playgrounds” aims to engage youth in various sports activities that are intertwined with environmental education and inclusive practices, fostering a sense of community, teamwork, and responsibility. The initiative seeks to leverage the universal appeal of sports to bring together young people from diverse backgrounds, encouraging them to engage in environmental stewardship while practicing and upholding EU values.
Main Objective:The primary goal of “Green Playgrounds” is to inspire youth workers to create sports-based programs that not only engage young people in physical activities but also embed lessons of environmental care and inclusivity. The initiative aims to develop a sense of European identity among participants, based on shared values of respect, diversity, and sustainability. Additionally, it seeks to empower youth to become active agents in their communities, promoting environmental responsibility and inclusive participation through the medium of sports. This program is designed for youth workers who are not only enthusiastic about sports but are also capable and interested in actively participating in various sports activities. The initiative emphasizes the importance of physical engagement in sports as a means to effectively connect with and inspire youth.
Specific Sports Activities: Youth workers participating in this program will be involved in a range of sports activities, including:
- Soccer: Promoting teamwork and strategy while discussing environmental teamwork.
- Basketball: Focusing on coordination and cooperation, paralleling these skills with community environmental efforts.
- Swimming: Emphasizing personal discipline and the importance of water conservation.
- Beach Volleyball: Encouraging fun and active engagement in a beach setting, linking to coastal environmental awareness.
- Tennis: Highlighting individual skill development and the value of persistence, related to long-term environmental goals.
Important Note: This program is specifically designed for youth workers who are capable of and interested in actively participating in these sports. It is important that applicants are physically able to engage in soccer, basketball, swimming, beach volleyball, and tennis. Youth workers who do not have the ability or interest in participating in these sports activities are advised not to apply for this project, as active participation is a key component of the program’s methodology and goals.

Costs: Travel expenses from Germany to Italy and return will be reimbursed up to max. 220 EUR.
Contribution: To participate in this project, participants should share the values and support the mission of Copernicus Berlin. With the contributions of the selected participants Copernicus Berlin can create new opportunities. In the application form there is the possibility to choose the amount of the contribution. With a high contribution, participants can present their strong support and might be selected quickly. Contributions of 200 EUR or more are eligible for a donation certificate from Copernicus Berlin. Accommodation: The accomodation costs are covered. During the days of the training course participants will be accommodated in a 4-star hotel Villaggio Bahja.
Meal: The costs for 3 times meal are covered.
Travel: You can also stay 2 days longer or arrive 2 days earlier and explore the area at your own expense.
